We offer 3 levels of band, 3 levels of orchestra, choir, musical theatre, elementary music, percussion ensemble, & more. 

Beginning Band & Beginning Orchestra:  We take beginning students who know nothing about music or their instrument and teach them. Within a few months, they will be performing before an audience!  Potential Beginning Band & Beginning String students must be at least 10 by Sept 1 & attend an Instrument Fitting session where they get to try the instruments to find out what best suits them.

Intermediate Band & Intermediate String students must have played for at least a year. Last year's beginners usually automatically move up to intermediate groups. For those enrolling that haven't been a part of YCME in the past, an informal audition will be needed to determine the best placement.

Chamber Strings & Winds are for advanced players & an audition is required.

Choir is for those ages 10 & up who are reading at least a 5th grade level and are emotionally mature enough to withstand the inevitable frustrations that come with learning something new & being a part of a group. No singing experience necessary.

Musical Theatre is for ages 8 to 18. In the class, students are taught singing skills & drama through games & activities & learn the songs of a musical thru most of first semester & then all those skills are put together to perform the musical late spring.

Elementary Music is for those in 1st through 5th grades. Students will get to experience rhythm games, singing activities and all kinds of hands on learning to get a great foundation in rhythm, melody, and harmony that can be applied to singing or learning to play an instrument.

Percussion Ensemble is for ages 10 & up. No experience necessary. This is a 6 week class for students to get to explore many different percussion instruments, including snare drum, bass drum, timpani, xylophone, bells, congas, bongos, claves, & more. Students will learn to play by rote, but will also be introduced to how to read percussion music.
